World's Largest Tug of War Held in Okinawa, Japan

At outdoor social events, parties, barbeque's and get-togethers in Japan, Tug of War is still a popular game.

The Metro reports that the biggest Tug of War and Guinness Record Book holder contest was held in Okinawa:

Participants pull on 200 smaller ropes attached to the main one in their attempt to be crowned champions at the competition.

No wonder it holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest tug of war.

To add to the fun, the battle begins when a huge gold ball cracks open, showering those below in confetti.

The festival dates back to the 17th century, when it was used to help predict the coming year’s fortune.
