Did someone say that old Japanese corporations are very slow in deciding things, and when they finally do decide, they make bad decisions?
Well, maybe it's not a bad decision, but I'll bet it's way too little too late. Kinokuniya has decided to go online to sell books!
From AP:
Time-honored bookstore chain operator Kinokuniya Co. will open an online bookstore offering conventional books and e-books by the yearend, its officials said Friday. It will be the first Japanese retail outlet for conventional books to start such a business, the officials said. The envisioned online store, called "Kinokuniya Shoten BookWebPlus," will offer 1,200 e-book titles, including those of Kobunsha Co. and Kodansha Ltd. publishing companies, when it opens, they said. Kinokuniya will try to boost the number of e-books that can be downloaded from its online store to 30,000 within a year, they said.
Alright! Jeez, guys, it's almost 2011, Kinokuniya get into the 90's will ya!?
